This was my very first startup experience.
We aimed to create AirBnB Experiences before AirBnB Experiences existed. We got some funding from the local government, as we won the first prize in a startup competition.
After two years of developing a P2P platform for experience bookings with a fully working payment system that distributed funds across experience providers, we had to close down. It was the first time I realized what they actually mean by "build it, and they will come" and why that's not a good idea. We just didn't have a good enough distribution strategy.
I learned a ton in those two years, both from the technical and from the business side of things.
